If you are part of a multi-racial family parenting black children or are in the process of adopting black children, we want to invite you to an event that will give you new tools and resources to help strengthen your family and your community!
Join us on Thursday, June 30, 2022, for a special evening to hear from Valerie I. Harrison and Kathryn Peach D'Angelo, authors of "Do Right By Me: Learning to Raise Black Children in White Spaces."

Attending this unique opportunity provides a safe space for you to have open dialogue on transracial adoption, understanding racism, developing a child’s positive racial identity, racial disparities in healthcare and education, the violence of racism, and tools to help you raise and nurture healthy and happy children. Authors, Valerie and Kathryn, are coming together to have an open dialogue with adoptive families with black children and share their key takeaways from their book.
You will have the opportunity to explore and discuss challenging topics and questions such as:
- How do I, as a non-black person, talk about the experiences of black people?
- What do I need to do as a parent to instill black pride in my child?
- How do I talk with my child about the "N" word?
- How can we create a positive, multi-racial family identity as a family?
- What steps do I need to take as a parent to help my black child navigate white spaces?
More About the Book
In their book "Do Right By Me: Learning to Raise Black Children in White Spaces," through lively and intimate back-and-forth exchanges, the authors share about guarding a child’s confidence and nurturing positive racial identity and share information, research, and resources that orient parents and other community members to the ways race and racism will affect a black child’s life—and despite that, how to raise and nurture healthy and happy children. They also share information on transracial adoption, understanding racism, developing a child’s positive racial identity, racial disparities in healthcare and education, and the violence of racism.
