PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education) is a nationally-recognized training model used for families who are interested in adopting an older child from the foster care system. Given the mandatory remote work required as a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, all sessions are currently held online over a period of four Saturdays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Families have the opportunity to learn about adoption from the foster care system and to better understand the needs of children who are being placed through Project Wait No Longer (PWNL). Training is a requirement for all families pursuing adoption through the foster care system, but it is also a learning experience so you can have a better understanding of what your new child has been through and how to best meet their needs.

Many families use the training experience to confirm their commitment to adopting a child with a history of trauma. It also provides the opportunity to build relationships with other families who are adopting from the foster care system and to build relationships with PWNL staff. Two highlights from the training include hearing from a family who has adopted through PWNL and a presentation from PWNL's Placement Coordinator on the matching process.

Please Note: Completion of all four PRIDE sessions is mandatory in order to receive a PRIDE training certificate.  Makeup sessions for classes missed due to an unexpected emergency may be made available for an additional fee at the discretion of the trainer/program. These make-up sessions are not available for the first session of PRIDE. Please note that participants missing more than one session (for any reason) will be disenrolled from the class and required to complete the entire training again at a time that better fits their schedule. It is strongly recommended that registrants arrange their schedules to accommodate being present at each of the class sessions. For further questions about class and scheduling please contact tmcleran [at] barkerfoundation.org (Taylor McLeran).

*Cancellation Policy: Cancelled registrations will incur a fee of $75 for couples and $50 for singles if cancellation occurs one week prior to the session’s start date. All fees are non-refundable after that time.
